General

You can email us at info@stonewaterwellness.ca or call 416-709-1662 and we’ll guide you to the service that will best address your concern. We also offer free 15 minute consultations.

A doctor’s referral isn’t needed for you to come see us.  Keep in mind that some extended health insurance plans require a doctor’s referral if you want to submit your claim.  Please connect with your insurance provider to confirm the requirements of your policy.

We don’t take walk-ins at this time.  Our services are booked in advance and can be reserved online or by phone.

Cancellation Policy
Your appointment time is reserved just for you.  A late cancellation or missed visit leaves a hole in the therapists’ day that could have been filled by another patient in need. As such, we require 24 hours notice for any cancellations or changes to your appointment. Patients who provide less than 24 hours notice, or miss their appointment, will be charged a cancellation fee equal to the full cost of their appointment to the credit card on file.

Late Arrivals
Please arrive on time as appointment times cannot be pushed back for a late arrival. Depending upon how late you arrive, your therapist will determine if there is enough time remaining to start a treatment.  If treatment can proceed, your session will be shortened in order to respect the appointments that follow yours. The full fee of the scheduled appointment will be charged in the event of late arrivals.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture needles are very thin so discomfort is rare.  People often don’t feel them inserted at all. Common sensations felt at the points where needles are placed are  warmth, tingling, activation or heaviness.  Each person is different so the sensations felt will be unique to each.  Most people experience deep relaxation during and after treatment.  You might even fall asleep.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment.  Short sleeved tops that allow access to your arms, and pants that can be rolled up to the knees without causing constriction are ideal.  In a typical treatment, you will keep most, if not all, of your clothing on.

It is important to have a light meal before your treatment. Low blood sugar can cause faintness, while being too full may lead to discomfort or nausea.   Avoid alcohol for six hours prior to treatment.

Stay hydrated and take it easy for the rest of the day.   This will allow your body to optimize the balancing work from your session.

The way each body responds to treatment is unique so the number of sessions will vary.  Acute conditions may only require a few sessions while chronic conditions will need more.  We often recommend several treatments within close succession to help jumpstart your body’s response to the particular health issue we are treating.  As you feel better, we increase the time between appointments until your issue is resolved.  Eventually, you’ll only visit every few weeks to maintain your health.

Facial Acupuncture

To make the most of your appointment time, please come to your appointment with clean, makeup-free skin.  If that’s not possible, we have face cleansing wipes available for you to use prior to acupuncture.

As this is a holistic treatment, needles are carefully placed on the face and body.

Facial gua sha is a relaxing, skin care ritual rooted in Chinese culture. It involves gently scraping the skin with a smooth-edged tool over meridians on the face and neck.  When used on the face, the rhythmic movements can enhance circulation, reduce puffiness, and encourage fluid drainage to improve shape and radiance.  By relaxing facial muscles, lifting tissues, and increasing blood flow, fine lines can be minimized, giving rise to a softer, smoother look.  After facial gua sha, the skin appears healthy and full of lustre.

Celluma is a type of LED light therapy that involves the use of specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular activity in the body. It is a non-invasive treatment that uses low-level light therapy (LLLT) to treat various skin conditions, in addition to pain, and inflammation.

The Celluma device is Health Canada approved and FDA cleared. It emits a combination of blue, red, and near-infrared light to penetrate the skin and stimulate cellular activity. The blue light is used to treat acne, the red light is used to reduce inflammation and promote collagen production, and the near-infrared light is used to reduce pain and promote healing.

Celluma Light Therapy is suitable for all skin types, and is non-ablative, painless, and requires no downtime.

The benefits of facial acupuncture are cumulative. We recommend 2 sessions a week for 5 to 6 weeks to optimize results.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

A herbal formula is made of herbs that may be bitter, sour, sweet, salty or pungent.   Depending on the herbs prescribed for you, the melding of these flavours will vary.  In general, you can expect an earthy, bitter or tangy taste.  Likely more earthy, bitter or tangy than you’ve tasted before.  Once you’ve taken it a few times, you may find the taste to be surprisingly comforting.

The length of time you will take the herbs depends on your specific ailment and how long you have had it.  The herbal formula is taken at regular intervals, often twice a day, anywhere from from 3 days to several weeks at a time.  There may also be adjustments in the herbs along the way.

We use a high-quality, herbal dispensary to fill our prescriptions in granule form. Granules are mixed with water and taken like a tea. On the day of your appointment, your prescription is sent electronically to the dispensary. You’ll be notified by email when it is ready. You simply log on to the herbal dispensary site, pay for your herbs, and choose the shipping speed that suits you best.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy fees are covered under most workplace healthcare plans. However, every insurance provider is different.  Please contact your insurance provider prior to beginning therapy to ask questions like:

– What is the level of coverage for psychotherapy services (e.g. full fee or a portion of fees covered)?
– Is there a maximum amount that will be reimbursed to me for therapy sessions (e.g. up to $5000 annually)?

After each session, a receipt will be provided to you so that you can seek reimbursement directly with your own insurance provider.

For each psychotherapy session (50 minutes in length), the fee is $165.00 + HST.   This fee applies whether you are seeking therapy as an individual, couple, or family.  If you wish to book longer appointments, this is reserved in advance and the fee is pro-rated based on the time requested.

We require 24 hours advance notice for any appointment cancellations.  For missed appointments or cancellations with insufficient notice, the cancellation fee is the full fee of $165.00.

During the first few sessions, you can expect the asking of questions that explore your background and your situation.  This helps build understanding of what brings you in and what your goals for therapy are.  You can also expect frequent check-ins.  We make sure to ask how you are feeling about the work we are doing together so we can continually stay on track based on your needs.

The therapy process (e.g. pace, frequency and number of sessions) is determined by your specific needs and level of engagement and commitment.  Sometimes, depending on the issue, short-term therapy makes sense (e.g. up to 12 sessions). At other times, longer-term therapy may be more helpful.

Regardless of the length, the therapy process will have these features:  ongoing progress check-ins together, clarity about where you started, awareness of where you are now, and dialogue about where you would like to be overall.
